They upheld the true meaning of being a doctor. And then they indulged in Gandhigiri. Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani, who had united for the successful Munna Bhai series, will once again come together for a film on the nuances of law. And Mirror caught up with the two actors on the sets of Subhash Kapoor’s film titled Jolly LLB at Filmalay Studios (Mumbai) on Wednesday.
The first thing that struck us when we entered the studio was that everybody was too ‘jolly’. Perhaps they were taking the film title too seriously? But later we realised that it was the two actors Boman and Arshad keeping up a constant flow of jokes. In fact, their camaraderie made us wonder what brought the two so close.
The friendship began 17 years back. “We did this play called Roshni. There was this scene where Sharon Prabhakar, at her sexiest best, was sitting on a sofa. And meanwhile, Boman and I had to dance in full Elvis Presley regalia. I just can’t get the scene out of my mind,” explained Arshad. And everyone on the sets, possibly trying to visualise Boman dressed as Elvis, started laughing. |

Shahpur police had to face the ire of locals who wanted ‘custody’ of a man who had allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old boy on Wednesday. Not allowed to ‘teach the abductor a lesson’, the mob pelted stones at the police station. The cops had to lob 10 teargas shells to disperse the 500-strong mob. Police identified the accused as Balwant Thakore, a 50-year-old resident of Jamalpur. |
This could not have been better timed for a beleaguered Priyanka Chopra. On Monday, the cream from Bollywood, sports, business, politics and culture gathered to congratulate Sachin Tendulkar at a glittering bash hosted by Mukesh and Nita Ambani. And the Ambanis chose Pee Cee and Rajkumar Hirani to entertain the guests, anchor the show and plan the bash that stretched well into the wee hours of the morning.
Interestingly, among the audience were several of the actress' former friends, who are no more cordial with her. And there were those who are working with her as well. And if eye witnesses are to be believed, it turned out to be a fantastic opportunity for Pee Cee to let the world know that she may be down, but not out. Especially not with powerful well wishers like the world's richest and most influential behind her. And the intelligent girl that she is, Pee Cee |
There’s been “no middle road” with India’s performances since winning the cricket World Cup, coach Duncan Fletcher said on Wednesday as his Twenty20 squad flew in for a rapid visit to South Africa.
Giving youngsters experience away from home was now one of the keys to finding consistency, he said, in the hope that trips away will “pay dividends in the future.’’ India plays the Proteas in a one-off T20 on Friday and despite the game falling just days before the start of the Indian Premier League, Fletcher said it would help. “We’re trying to develop a young one-day squad and Twenty20 squad,” he said. “These blokes have played well on the subcontinent and any game they play out of it must be good from an experience point of view. “(We want to) expose them to different pressures and different conditions. From my point of view there is a lot of talent around, we just need to make sure we give them that experience they require.” |
Houston: A plane carrying 135 passengers on an early morning flight from New York to Las Vegas on Tuesday was forced to make an emergency landing when its captain suddenly went berserk and began yelling about a bomb on the plane.
Reports said he screamed, “Say your prayers, say your prayers”, at horrified passengers and ran up and down the aisle shouting, “Iraq, al-Qaeda, terrorism, we’re all going down!” Clayton Osbon, the veteran pilot with JetBlue, was controlled by passengers. He seemed to have had a panic attack, CBS News reported. The airline said the captain of Flight 191 had a ‘medical situation’, and the co-pilot diverted the plane to land in Amarillo, Texas. |
In New Delhi: It looks like Army chief General V K Singh is set to retire in May with all guns blazing. His letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the shortage of ammunition in the forces that was leaked to the media, created uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
As political tension mounted over the leaked letter, the government thought over the sacking of Gen Singh to save its face.
Even as leaders from the Samajwadi Party and Janta Dal (United) asked the government to give marching orders to Gen Singh, Defence Minister A K Antony did not favour any drastic step.
Sources said some decision could be announced once the Parliament session goes for a three-week break from March 30. |
A growing sense of insecurity in the wake of reports about disappearance of children from different parts of city, has made residents suspicious of new visitors in their locality. This could explain why incidents of strangers being beaten up, after they were mistaken for abductors are on the rise.

Chandigarh: A sessions court on Tuesday rejected the petition seeking deferment of the hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted for assassination of former state chief minister Beant Singh, and ordered carrying out the sentence on March 31 as scheduled.
Hours after the ruling, Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal reached New Delhi to meet the President to seek clemency for the Babbar Khalsa International militant. Meanwhile, the Centre made its position clear with Law Minister Salman Khurshid saying that neither it nor the state government “can do anything outside the system”. Amid protests in the state against the court ruling, the man facing the gallows has maintained that he doesn’t want sympathy from anyone. |
